Vice Leader

Hi, everyone!

I am Super Vedasto, the vice leader and coordinator of NTHU Tanzania Educational Volunteer Team 2014. I arrived in Taiwan in 2011 for university studies; I am currently a third year student at the National Chengchi University國立政治大學);  I am a student in Business Administration program with a double major in Economics.

I have worked as a teacher and Headmaster before coming to Taiwan, in one of the schools in Tanzania. This is the time I got in touch, for the first time, with NTHU Volunteers because they visited our school during their first mission in Tanzania, in 2008; they came again and set up computer lab in our school in 2009.
Being in Taiwan, gives me an opportunity to participate actively in the NTHU Volunteers program. I feel honored to be given some responsibilities in this dream team; it is my third time to be a co-group leader; I did it in 2012, 2013 and now 2014. This gives me a very important opportunity to join the teams’ efforts in promoting education especially Information and Communication Technology in Tanzania.

This year our team is composed of 16 members who all are with profession, creation and most important of all, with good heart.
The main challenge which faces our team is to raise enough money to finance our program in Tanzania. We normally donate computers in schools and train both teachers and students how to use them. Besides computers, we donate stationeries and teaching and learning materials to schools.

We also need to purchase airplane tickets, pay for ground transport, meals and accommodation in Tanzania. All these things require money, however all our members are students who depends on parents since they don’t have personal income. We therefore need to work hard to fundraise the money to finance our program in Tanzania.

According to my experience in teaching profession, lack of computer in one of the major setback in Tanzania education. Anyone can easily notice the difference between those schools which received NTHU Volunteer computers and training and those who didn’t. At least the recipient schools can search for teaching/learning materials on internet can also teach computer subject in a practical way compared to a traditional theoretical way.

I would like to invite everybody; to take part in supporting the efforts of NTHU Educational Volunteer Team, to bring our plans into reality. Their excellent work has touched the hearts of less privileged Tanzanian students; it has brought the light of hope in their academic life.

Thank you.
